Welsh Cat Found on Car Engine Reunited with Owner in Scotland

22 April 2014

SCOTLAND, UK - A cat found on the engine of a car in Perth and believed to be from Wales has been reunited with her owner thanks to the Scottish SPCA.

The SPCA were called to rescue the female ginger tabby cat on Sunday (20 April) after a resident of Almondbank heard cries coming from under the bonnet of his car.

The cat was taken to the Angus, Fife and Tayside Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Petterden, where staff scanned her for a microchip and discovered she was named Mort and registered to an address in Wales.

Unfortunately, there was no phone number listed but, not to be deterred, assistant manager Coreen Hill found a contact number for someone else on the street in Crickhowell, Powys.

Coreen said: "The person I spoke with told me Mort's owner, Suzie Grant, had moved to Perth and, luckily, they had a note of her phone new number.

"Suzie was delighted when I got in touch as she had been very worried when Mort didn't return home.

"She came to collect her right away and Mort was really pleased to see her. Suzie was so grateful she even made a kind donation to say thank you for helping Mort.

"It's always lovely when we have a happy ending and hopefully this will highlight the importance of keeping microchip details up to date.

"This should always be done as soon as possible if moving house or changing phone number and Mort's owner has promised us she's going to do this straight away."

Coreen added that Mort was very lucky to have escaped injury after being found on the engine of a car.

She said: "The man heard meowing coming for his car and was shocked to find Mort when he lifted the bonnet. She must have climbed inside when his car was parked.

"The man had actually driven his car with Mort inside without realising but, remarkably, she hadn't sustained any burns or other injuries."
