Cats Protection

UK - The hunt is on to find Britain’s top cat as Cats Protection launches its National Cat Awards 2014 – and organisers are on the prowl for nominations!

Sponsored by PURINA®, the prestigious competition is open to all living cats in the UK. Owners have until noon on Friday 30 May to nominate their cat for one of the following categories:

Hero Cat – Cats that save the day
Most Caring Cat – Cats that have a positive impact on an owner’s health or wellbeing
Most Incredible Story - Belief-defying, true stories from the cat world
Outstanding Rescue Cat – Felines adopted from animal welfare organisations
Purina® Better Together - Celebrating the special bond that has transformed and enriched the lives of both a feline and human

The winning felines, and the overall National Cat of the Year, will be announced at a glamorous awards ceremony at London's Savoy Hotel on Thursday 7 August 2014. The event will be attended by celebrity judges who will present the awards and pay tribute to the nation’s top cats.

Kate Bunting, awards organiser said: “As a charity that helps over 218,000 cats and kittens each year, we come across many unbelievable stories of friendship, courage and bravery which remind us how adopting a cat can change our lives for the better. The National Cat Awards are designed to celebrate the contribution that all of the nation’s cats make to their owners’ lives and we hope to receive many entries in the weeks ahead.”

The winner of this year’s National Cat Awards will inherit the title from previous winner Jessi-Cat from Greater Manchester who helped Lorcan Dillon, a young boy with Asperger’s syndrome and selective mutism, to communicate his emotions more effectively.

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. The charity’s vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs.
