Phone App Helps Owners Keep Check on Pet Health

21 May 2014

ANALYSIS - We're constantly using our smartphones to share photos and videos of our pets, but a revolution in technology now provides owners with a quick and inexpensive way to check the health of our cats and dogs, writes Gemma Hyland.

Petnostics works by analysing urine via the phone app, consisting of reactive strips that change colour when they come into contact with a pet's urine.

The smartphone camera takes an photo of the results, which are displayed on the app for a user to screen for potential illnesses.

It seems like a simple method, but how effective is it?

The app claims to screen for illnesses such as the onset of diabetes, urinary tract infection and kidney stones.

Results from a test can be exported to a vet for more in-depth analysis.
