Breathalysers Introduced for Australia’s Racecourse Vets

27 June 2014

AUSTRALIA - The Australian Racing Board has introduced a new rule which makes it an offence to be affected by an illicit substance or alcohol and provides power to the stewards to conduct random drug and alcohol testing in horse handling personnel including veterinarians.

The new legislation comes into effect from the 1st of July.

Riders and stable employees are warned against taking herbal and other “over the counter” medicines without firstly making thorough enquiries as to whether ingredients of such products are regarded as a banned substance.
