Blue Cross A Step Closer to Helping Suffolk Pets

15 July 2014

UK - Progress is being made on the new Blue Cross Suffolk rehoming centre with the land now purchased.

With the land purchased, the Blue Cross is one step closer to doubling the number of homeless and abandoned dogs and cats they can help in the region, and they can now kick-start our major fundraising appeal.

Andrew Gillon, Centre Manager at Blue Cross Suffolk says: “This is a very exciting time for Blue Cross and something we’ve been waiting a very long time for. Buying the land was the next piece of the puzzle.

“We now need to raise much-needed funds to build our new rehoming centre, and would love to hear from any local residents or businesses who would like to help.

“We’ve already got the help of our phenomenal volunteer fundraising group who have already raised over £125,000.”

The centre, which helps over 400 cats and dogs in need every year, is currently located in Felixstowe, where it has been since the 1950s.

However, the new Suffolk rehoming centre, opposite Suffolk Ski Centre, will enable Blue Cross to care for twice the number of pets.

Andrew adds: “Our new centre will be purpose-built from scratch, meaning we’ll be able to create brand new, modern facilities for the area’s most needy pets.

"Plus, the location will make us much more accessible, meaning we’ll be able to find more loving homes for the dogs and cats that come into our care.”

If building works go to plan, the doors to the centre could open as soon as summer 2015.
