Almost 50 Cats Rescued from One House

19 August 2014

US - Forty-eight cats and kittens have been removed from a home in Adams County, Washington.

The Ritzville Police Department requested assistance from national and local groups on this large scale cat rescue.

The Humane Society of the United States, Blue Mountain Humane, Everett Animal Shelter, Homeward Pet, King County Animal Services, Pasados Safe Haven, PAWS, Purrfect Pals, Skagit Valley Humane and SpokAnimal assisted authorities with the rescue and removal of the animals. Upon arriving at the property, the owner agreed to surrender the cats.

Dan Paul, Washington state director for The HSUS, said: “The collaboration between national and local groups in Ritzville today has saved numerous lives. We're grateful to the Ritzville Police Department and all of the local rescue groups for stepping up to help these cats.”

Some of the cats were suffering from minor health issues and a few appear to be pregnant.

Chief of Police David McCormick said: “I am very thankful for the cooperation and assistance provided to our department in dealing with this issue. The individuals that showed up to assist us are very caring professionals and we are grateful for their assistance.”

The animals were safely transported to the local rescue groups where they will be thoroughly examined by teams of veterinarians and receive any necessary medical treatment. After receiving treatment, the cats will be available for adoption.
