UK Pets Have Taste for the Weird - Blue Cross Unveils Unusual Items Pets have Eaten

22 August 2014

UK - The Blue Cross has revealed the 10 most bizarre items their vets have surgically removed from pets’ stomachs.

They include:

  • A Ken doll head
  • Red lacy knickers
  • £3.99 in loose change
  • A rubber alien
  • Rubber glove
  • A roll of poo bags
  • Three whole tennis balls
  • Sewing pin
  • Tinsel
  • Fisherman’s hook

Blue Cross treats 32,000 sick and injured pets at our pet hospitals and clinics every year.

Mark Bossley, Chief Veterinary Surgeon at our animal hospital in Victoria, central London, said: “The most common thing we remove from pets’ stomachs are bits of rubber from balls and toys, but every now and then we find something really unexpected, like a Ken doll head, which was definitely a first for us!”

Signs you should look out for if you think your pet has swallowed something they shouldn’t have include vomiting, depression and loss of appetite. Call your vet straight away if they do.
