Staff at Manchester Dogs Home Express 'Enormous Gratitude'

14 September 2014

ANALYSIS - Staff at Manchester Dogs' Home have expressed their 'enormous gratitude' following last week's fire, which killed more than 40 animals and led to a huge outpouring of public support, writes Gemma Hyland.

A spokesperson for Manchester Dogs' Home said: "All of the surviving dogs are now being cared for – the majority of them going to sister site Cheshire Dogs’ Home near Warrington – and those in need of veterinary treatment have been receiving it.

"We have now setup a telephone number – 08445040404 - staffed by volunteers to co-ordinate enquiries.

"Members of the public are urged not to come to Manchester Dogs’ Home, as the police investigation will be continuing and access is restricted.

"While the charity now needs to assess the situation and determine next steps, Manchester Dogs’ Home would like to commend its staff, many of whom witnessed atrocious sights on Thursday evening.

"We would like to express our enormous gratitude to the local community for their wonderful help during this sad event. Our heartfelt thanks also go out to the Emergency Services for their consumate professionalism and caring assistance.

"We would also like to thank all of the wonderful people from all over the UK and further afield for their generosity and support. Our sad story seems to have touched so many people all over the world."

A 15-year-old boy was arrested following the suspected arson attack on Thursday night (11 September).

A JustGiving page has been set up to raise funds for the Dogs' Home.
