Homes Desperately Sought for Rare Russian Borzois Pups

08 October 2014
Dogs Trust

UK - Dogs Trust Bridgend are appealing to local dog lovers to help find the right homes for five beautiful Borzois puppies.

A litter of five of the unusual Russian breed were handed into the Rehoming Centre last week to find loving homes when their owner was no longer able to care for them so gave them to Dogs Trust to help find them loving new homes.

The nine month old Russian beauties were handed in last week, which coincided with Paris Fashion week and given that Borzois are renowned for their grace and beauty staff have named the pretty pooches after famous super models.

The litter, which included two girls and three boys have been nicknamed: Claud Sniffer, Cindy Pawford, Rosie Huntingdog Whitely, Suki Waterhound and Derek Zoolurcher are all looking for model homes of their own.

Beverley Price, Dogs Trust Bridgend Rehoming Centre Manager explains: “I was amazed to see them come in as in over twenty years working on the front line of dog welfare I have never seen a Borzoi handed in before and now we have five.

"They are stunning dogs but we are keen that people do not take them on based on looks alone, they are not the average dog and need specialist handing by an experienced, patient owner. Borzois were bred to hunt wolves in the Russian wilderness and are certainly not suitable pets for first time dog owners.”

Beverly adds: “Borzois are very gentle natured but highly intelligent, sensitive dogs which are naturally reserved but in the right homes with experienced, patient handling they will make rewarding, loving, loyal pets.

"They need to go to adult only homes with owners who are around most of the day to devote the time needed to help these gentle giants settle in. They require plenty of space and exercise and are used to living together so must be rehomed with a compatible dog.

"We know we have our work cut out finding specialist homes for our fantastic five but we always aim to match the right dog with the right owner according to the needs and situation of both. We know the right owners are out there somewhere and look forward to seeing them find the loving homes for life which they deserve.”

Anyone interested in offering the puppies a new home please call Dogs Trust Bridgend on 01656 725 219.
