Pet Owners 'Barking Mad' for Christmas Gifts

09 December 2014

UK - A third of pet owners plan to spend more money on their furry friends than they do on their partner, siblings and their children this Christmas.

Blue Cross research also revealed that nearly a quarter of Britons spend an average of £20 on their beloved pets.

Aside from gifts, pets are looking forward to:

  • a visit to see wider family (32 per cent)
  • being cooked a special Christmas meal (26 per cent)
  • receiving a home-made Christmas card (15 per cent)
  • and even having carols sung to them for Christmas (32 per cent).

But as the totals spent on gifts this year tot up, we’re reminding pet lovers to remember the pets that are less fortunate.

Mandy Jones, Head of Rehoming Services at Blue Cross, said: “Christmas is an excuse for owners to treat their pets. It’s great to see how dedicated we are as a nation to our furry friends, but spare a thought for those unwanted and abandoned pets that don’t have a home to call their own.”
