Loneliest Dog at Battersea Faces Christmas in Kennels

UK - Gizmo the Staffie was so nervous when he first arrived that it took staff a week before they could coax him out of his bed.

Rehoming and Welfare Assistant Sarah Parkinson fell in love with Gizmo and has been fostering him ever since, taking him home with her in the evening and bringing him back to Battersea the next day, but as soon as Gizmo sees that he is going back into his kennel, he starts to cry.

Sarah says: “Gizmo is an incredibly loving and affectionate dog but he’s a total softie so kennels are proving really hard for him.

"He’s frightened of traffic, of the dark and even rain – he screws up his face and tries to hide from it. It breaks my heart hearing him cry when I put him in his kennel for the day. It would be the best present ever for Gizmo to find a new home before Christmas.”

Sarah can’t take Gizmo home with her for Christmas because of family commitments.

James Ross, Fostering Coordinator at Battersea, said: “Sarah and Gizmo show how invaluable our foster carers are to Battersea.

"Many dogs struggle with kennels and having a safe, loving home where they can spend some time while we find them their perfect owner is crucial.

"We desperately need more foster families – ideally people with no pets but who are experienced dog or cat owners, with time to devote to one of our needy animals. So if that’s you, please get in touch!”

If you think that you could offer a nervous dog like Gizmo the right home, please contact Battersea on 0843 509 4444.
