11 Week Old Lurcher Pup Abandoned on New Years Eve

06 January 2015
Dogs Trust

UK - Whilst others were celebrating the impending arrival of the New Year, the team at Dogs Trust Leeds were dealing with the arrival of a different kind, an 11 week old Lurcher puppy that was found tied to a tree in freezing conditions in the Seacroft area of Leeds.

The terrified little pooch - nicknamed Ivy by the Dogs Trust team - was found by a passing couple, who alerted the dog warden immediately.

Staff at the centre are unsure as to how long Ivy had been left in the cold before she was found, but despite her horrible experience, she is in good health. Staff are hoping that the new year will bring Ivy a much-deserved fresh start with a new, loving family.

Emma Cooper, Assistant Manager at Dogs Trust Leeds comments: "Ivy has been very lucky that she was found in time as the temperatures have been so low. We suspect Ivy may have been bought as a Christmas present and dumped when her owners realised the work involved.

"Unfortunately once the excitement of Christmas wears off and people get back to their daily routines, they see they don't have the time required to look after a puppy. Dogs can provide a world of happiness and enjoyment, and we urge anyone considering a new addition to the family to think it through properly.

"As Ivy is still such a young pup, she will be looking for a new owner who has the time and patience to properly train and socialise her, and who understands the work involved in owning a puppy. She is a lovely cheeky pup and will make a wonderful addition to any family."
