Public Health Implications of Ticks Highlighted

05 February 2015

UK - Pet owners are being reminded of the potential risk of the introduction of ticks and tick borne diseases from travelling pets.

While treatment against ticks is no longer required under the Pet Travel Scheme it is still good practice to prevent the introduction of ticks and tick borne diseases.

There is further information available on the resources section BSAVA website relating to Pet Travel and Lyme disease.

Any veterinary surgeon finding ticks on a recently imported animal is invited to submit specimens to the Tick Recording Scheme which is a nationwide project set up to collect information on the risks of tick importation in the UK
