Breeders Guide to Compulsory Microchipping

05 March 2015

UK - The Kennel Club, alongside Petlog is launching a new Breeders Guide to Compulsory Microchipping in England at Crufts.

The guide gives an overview of breeders responsibilities come April 2016 when it becomes a legal requirement and covers the frequently asked questions as well as information on choosing the right microchip database.

The guides as well as information on Petlog’s new Find a Petlog Implanter service will be available on the Kennel Club stand in Hall 3.

The Microchipping of Dogs Regulations 2014 were announced in October and highlight the responsibilities of breeders and dog owners once microchipping becomes compulsory in England from 6 April 2016.

The Kennel Club, the UK’s largest dog welfare organisation, has campaigned for compulsory microchipping as part of the Microchipping Alliance alongside Petlog.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “In 2013 Defra announced that from April 2016 all dogs would be required to be microchipped. Since then Petlog and the Kennel Club have been listening to breeder’s feedback and working with our suppliers to ensure that in the run up to 2016 we offer a truly robust service to breeders once the legislation is in force.

“We encourage all breeders to come to the Kennel Club stand at Crufts to receive their new guides and ask any questions they may have about compulsory microchipping. We’re keen to guide breeders through the regulations and make sure they’re fully prepared by April 2016.”

For more information on compulsory microchipping please visit the Kennel Club main stand in Hall 3.
