23 March 2015
Australian Veterinary Association

AUSTRALIA - The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) brought together close to 200 veterinarians, vet nurses and industry professionals in Wollongong, New South Wales, to learn the latest techniques in treating cardiorespiratory disease in pets.

The conference featured international guest speaker Dr Mark Rishniw, from Cornell University, New York, who will focus on correctly diagnosing and treating congestive heart failure in cats and dogs.

President of the NSW Division of AVA, Dr Geoff Scarlett, said he was very excited by the weekend.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for vets to update their skills in cardiology from a fantastic range of speakers. There will also be a separate stream for vet nurses.

“The AVA NSW Division has been presenting regional conferences for a number of years. They have been very successful and well supported.”

Conference highlight will include:

  • Resuscitation: Bringing them back from the brink – Dr Michael Kidd and Dr Steven Ferguson
  • Dogs with murmurs and chronic cough: Nobody’s sleeping – Dr Rita Singh
  • Cardiotherapeutics in cats and dogs – Dr Mark Rishniw
  • Cardiac intervention – Dr Niek Beijerink.
