New App Connects Pet Owners with Vetted Pet Sitters

16 July 2015

UK - Want to know you have left your pet in good hands while you are on holiday or at work? A new mobile app has recently been launched by to help pet owners find caring, vetted and insured pet sitters, walkers and home boarding in their area.

Online service that connects pet owners with pet lovers launches with mobile app

"The launch of Pawshake marks an exciting moment for us and for pet parents," said co-founder Tanguy Peers.

"We view our pets as family members and the prospect of finding them proper can take the joy out of a well earned break. Pawshake brings together the best of both worlds: animal lovers can be rewarded for their services as pet sitters, and owners can enjoy their holiday without worrying about their pet. And most importantly, your pet doesn't have to spend their holiday in a cage or kennel, but will be loved in a family environment."

Users of the service receive daily updates and photos of their pet while they are away giving them the reassurance that their animals are having as much fun as they are for the duration of their holiday.

On their return, pet owners are encouraged to leave honest reviews of their chosen sitter to help inform fellow users and provide sitters with coveted star ratings.

According to a recent Pawshake survey, 75 per cent of British pet owners have experienced difficulties finding someone to take care of their pet, and 79 per cent would cancel their trip altogether if they could not find a proper solution and taking their pet with them was not an option.

These results echo the personal experiences that led to the inception of Pawshake.

Dries Coucke developed the Pawshake concept when his father fell seriously ill and his family was faced with the difficulty of finding help to keep his parents’ dog well cared for. They knew there was no shortage of animal lovers who would be willing to help but were unsure how to find them. The idea of the Pawshake website was born.

Since launching in 2013, Pawshake has built a reputation for connecting pet owners with trusted and insured pet sitters. The company operates in 15 countries including Australia and Canada.

"Pawshake allows pet owners to book trusted sitters in their area that will treat their pet like family," said Peers.

"Some people call Pawshake a 'bed & breakfast for pets', but Pawshake is much more than that. We are a true community where animal lovers gather to help each other."
