Appeals for Information After Rabbits Abandoned in Scotland

25 August 2015

SCOTLAND, UK - The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after two rabbits were found in poor condition in Ayrshire, suspected to have been abandoned.

The SPCA was alerted when the pets were found straying in Kilwinning on Saturday 15 August.

The rabbits, estimated to be at least five years old, are now in the care of SPCA's animal rescue and rehoming centre in Ayr.

Centre manager Marion Hainey said: "Vera, the white and ginger rabbit is very underweight. In addition, her teeth and skin are in poor condition and her nails are overgrown.

"Mavis, the white and grey rabbit has multiple mammary masVerases and had a large amount of faeces stuck to her underside. Her nails are also severely overgrown.

"It is unacceptable for these rabbits to be in this condition. They have both suffered and their owner should have sought veterinary treatment.

"We believe they may have been abandoned due to their age and condition and would like to appeal to anyone in area to get in touch with us if they recognise them and know who owned them."

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
