Are Pets the Key to Happiness?

01 February 2016

UK - Happiness to many is about a string of positive events and emotions, finding meaning in life and developing content and loving relationships. Cate Archer, author of Doug The Pug – A working dogs title has devoted her time to brining happiness to those who may need it most with the help of her companion Doug.

Doug’s story is a sweet tale highlighting the joys of the human/animal bond and is based on Doug’s genuine working life through the UK charity “Pets As Therapy”. The book’s aim is to encourage us to be happy with who and what we are, celebrate each individual’s differences and recognise that we all have something quite wonderful to offer.

The use of animals in therapy has many obvious and proven benefits. Studies have shown that the mere presence of a friendly animal can result in decreased anxiety and lessened sympathetic nervous systems arousal. Other benefits include reduced blood pressure, lowered heart rate, a decrease in depression, increased speech and memory functions, and heightened mental clarity.

With such prolific outcomes, this type of therapy could be applied productively to the criminal justice systems by using animals as a “comfort item” to aid victims during their testimony in the courtroom, particularly in child abuse cases.

The book is written for junior school aged children, independent readers, and for those who enjoy reading with them. Pug lovers might like it too. In fact, anyone interested in the beautiful relationship between people and their companion animals might like it.

“Doug the Pug – A Working Dog’s Tale” is illustrated throughout with charming colour photographs of Doug himself (by Cate) and enhanced with background drawings and illustrations creating a delightful mix of media.

You can buy your very own copy from 5M Publishing here http://www.5mbooks.com/doug-the-pug.html .

Pets As Therapy will receive all Royalties from every one of Doug’s book purchased.

Doug and Cate will both be at the Crufts Dog show on the 10th – 13th March giving book readings at the Kennel Club’s Bark and Read room and on the Pets As Therapy Stand 188, Hall 4 for a “meet and greet”.
